Research in CSD Flashcards
Research
process, logically gathering and organizing information, knowledge acquisition (adding new knowledge to the field)
Scientific Research
method of gaining scientific knowledge (to know knowledge), powerful and objective method, science derived, ULTIMATE GOAL- answering a question
Scientific Observation
Observe and explain relationship between 2 variables, cause-effect relationship, realtionship between 2 variables w/out consideration of causality. ex.- diff btw age and perceptions of hearing aid use? not cause-effect relationship looking at
Cause-effect Relationship
If A then B, caution-make sure controlling for other unseen factors
5 major steps of conducting scientific research
1) statement of the problem
2) Formulating the research hypothesis
3) Developing the research method
4) results of the investigation
5) discussing the results and conclusion
Flow of the research process
it is not linear, methods->results->conclusions/new problem->problem
Tertiary Source
presents info collected from various sources to present a very broad overview of the topic (ex. brochures, wikipedia) important function in discremination of information
