What is meant by “practice”?
Interventions designed solely to enhance well-being of an individual patient or client and have reasonable expectation of success
What is the purpose of behavioral practice?
To provide diagnosis, preventive treatment or therapy to particular individuals
What is meant by research?
Activity designed to test a hypothesis, permit conclusions to be drawn, and develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge
What does the expression “basic ethical principles” mean?
General judgements that serve as a basic justification for the many particular ethical prescriptions and evaluations of human actions
What are the two ethical convictions for Respect for Persons
1) individuals should be treated as autonomous agents
2) those with diminished autonomy are entitled to protections
What is a autonomous person?
One capable of deliberation surrounding personal goals and acting under that deliberation ( careful considerations)
What does respecting autonomy look like?
◇ give merit to opinions and choices
◇ NOT obstructing their actions

° repudiate (reject) persons considered judgements
° deny freedom to act on judgements
° withold information necessary to make a considered judgement

Subjects enter voluntarily and with adequate information

What are 2 beneficent actions in BR?
1) Do no harm
2) maximize benefits and minimize possible harms
