What is research?
the process of discovering new knowledge using a systematic process called the scientific method
What is the scientific method in research?
observing the world around you and creating a hypothesis about relationships in the world. observations, questions, search literature, hypothesis, experiment, collect data, conclusions, share results, develop interventions, ask new questions
What is a hypothesis?
an informed and educated prediction or explanation about something
What is the PI’s role?
The principal investigator is in charge of all aspects of the research and creates the protocol
What is the research process?
research proposal, research activity, and written content
What is EBP?
the integration of clinical expertise and expert opinion, evidence (external and internal), client/patient/caregiver perspectives
What is evidence in EBP?
External and Internal. External is the best available information gathered from the scientific literature. Internal is the data and observations collected on your individual client
Why is EBP important?
It is required by the ASHA code of ethics, and allows you to back up your methods to clients and families. Allows you to defend your choice of treatments.

Frame your clinical question, gather evidence, access the evidence, make your clinical decision
