Definition: Focus on behavior experiences, and mental processes. Help people adapt to their experiences.
Patterns become habits, good habits stay bad habits are dropped
Example: it’s a habit of not touching the hot stove.
Behaviorism
Founder: John B Watson ( John Be Watchin’)
Definition: study observable behaviors: study what happens not why it happens
Reinforcement
Founder: B.F Skinner
Definition: how positive/negative consequences teach us behaviors: rewards= probable repetition. Negative consequences= may stop behaviors
Gestalt
Founders: Warthemer, Koffka, Kohler
Definition: idea that perceptions are more than jus the sum of there parts: the individual parts give meaning to the whole
Psychoanalysis
Founder: Sigmund Freud (took psychology out of the lab and without him there would be no therapy as we know it)
Definition: emphasizes the importance of unconscious behaviors/ internal conflicts on behaviors
