1)rotate the objective lens so that the low power is in line with the stage
2)turn the coarse focus so the stage is as close to the objective lens as possible
3)place microscope slide on the stage with the onion skin.place ontop of the onion skin.
4)Line it up so that the specimen - if you can see it - is in the centre of the stage, where the light passes through. Focus the slide by turning the coarse focus so the stage moves away from the objective lens.
5)draw an image of what you see
6)Rotate the objectives so that the high-power objective, eg x 40, is in line with the stage. Bring the slide back into focus using the fine focus adjustment.
