Q
Osmosis in potatoes experiment
A
Independent - sugar conc.
Dependent - % change in mass
Control - volume of sugar solution, initial mass of potato
First measure the initial mass of potatoes using a scales.
Using a scalpol, cut the potato pieces so they are all the same mass.
Then place the potato in a sugar solution for a set time.
Remove potato from sugar solution and measure the final mass
To calculate % change you do (final mass - initial mass) ÷ initial mass x 100.
Repeat this process and calculate a mean with the same volume of potato at other sugar concentrations.
Plot a graph of percentage change.
