What is the method for the Specific heat capacity practical

A

-use mass scale to measure mass
-use thermometer to measure temp change
-add few drops of water in temp hole otherwise air will act as an insulator
-measure voltage from voltmeter and current from ammeter
-measure the time using a stopwatch
-use the formula E=VIT to calculate energy
-Use the formula C = E/m*temp change to calculate specific heat capacity

What is the method for the density of an irregular shape practical

A

-use mass balance to measure mass of irregular shape
-fill the eureka can with water till it reaches just below the spout
-place a measuring cylinder under the spout
-slowly place the irregular shape in the eureka can
-water displaced = volume of the irregular shape
-use D = m/v to calculate density

Q

What is the method for the I-V characteristics of a fixed resistor

A

-set up a circuit with a fixed resistor, ammeter, battery, variable resistor and voltmeter
-move the slider on the variable resistor so that the R is the lowest
-Note current from ammeter and voltage from voltmeter
-move the slider to increase R and note the the voltage from the voltmeter and current from the ammeter
-repeat step 4, 5 times by moving the slider and increasing R
-plot a graph with voltage along the Y axis and Current along the X axis
-find the gradient of the graph which will tell you the R of the fixed resistor
