Required practical 6 Flashcards
1
Q
What is evolution?
A
Evolution is the change in allele frequency over many generations in a population.
2
Q
What is aseptic technique?
A
Used to prevent contamination therefore u can get reliable and repeatable results.
3
Q
How is aseptic technique achieved (5 points)?
A
- Work in the convection current of a bunsen burner (carries bacteria in the air away).
- Wipe surfaces with disinfectant before and after.
- Minimise opening of containers with bacteria.
- Flame neck of any bottles used (before&after use).
- Flame inoculating loop used.
4
Q
Why only lightly tape the lid on the agar plate?
A
So oxygen can enter the plate and prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria which prefer anaerobic conditions.
5
Q
Why incubate at 25 degrees celsius?
A
To prevent pathogenic bacteria from growing.
6
Q
What is the inhibition zone?
A
The area where bacteria have not grown (antibiotic inhibits the growth of that bacteria).
