Q
Describe how to investigate osmosis in plant tissue.
A
- Cut three potato cylinders of the same diameter using a cork bearer.
- Trim the potato at equal lengths using a ruler and knife.
- Measure and record the length (ruler) and mass (balance) of each potato.
- Measure and pour 10cm3 of 0.5M sugar solution into boiling tube and label accordingly using measuring cylinder.
- Repeat step 4 using 1.0M sugar solution and distilled water into two other boiling tubes.
- Place a potato in each tube and leave overnight.
- Remove potatoes and blot dry using paper towel.
- Repeat step 3 and record results.
- Plot a graph with change in mass (g) against concentration of solution (cm3).
