Aspirin (ASA)

A

NSAID prototype

(Oral, 325 mg tablets)

(650-100 mg) [3-4 tablets] / 4 hours
- headache, arthritis, dysmenorrhea, neuralgia, myalgia,

(>1300 mg) [4+ tablets] /4 hours
- acute rheumatic fever, RA, etc.

( 75-81 mg/day) (1/4 of normal dose)
Prevents thrombus formation
– prevent risk of stroke, MI, and transient ischemia (TIA)

(-) increased bleeding, , GI irritation and damage, mild GI bleeding, peptic ulcers, gastric ulceration, and hemorrhage
(+) reduces GI cancer risk

Do not take with warfarin, methotrexate, sulfasinomides, etc.
