Propagation of the species through the formation of new individuals.
What are the 4 steps involved in mammal sexual reproduction?
The formation of germ cells. The fusion of the two gametes to form a zygote. The development of the offspring within the female reproductive system during pregnancy. The expulsion of the offspring once it is capable of surviving in the external environment called parturition.
What are male gametes called?
Spermatozoa (spermatozoon).
What are female gametes called?
Ova (ovum).
What are gametes?
Germ cells with a haploid chromosome number.
What are male gonads called?
Testes (testis).
What are female gonads called?
Ovaries (ovary).
What is the function of gonads?
Gametogenesis.
What is the male sex hormone?
Testosterone.
What are the 2 female sex hormones?
Oestrogen and Progesterone.
What is the function of sex hormones?
Regulation of reproduction and development.
What structures make up the male reproductive tract?
Epididymis, Vas deferens, Ejaculatory duct and urethra.
What structures make up the female reproductive tract?
Fallopian Tube, Uterus, Cervical Canal abd Vagina.
What is the function of the male reproductive tract?
Storage and delivery of gametes.
What is the function of the female reproductive tract?
Receive gametes, locus for fertilisation, embryonic development and parturition.
