reproductive systems Flashcards
(f) What does a fallopian tube do?
What do they connect?
How many are there and where are they?
-Enabling sperm to reach your egg and transporting a fertilized egg from your ovaries to your uterus.
-The fallopian tubes connect the uterus to the ovaries.
-2 fallopian tubes on each side of the uterus
(f) What are ovaries?
What do they look like?
Where are they?
-They produce, store, and release eggs into the fallopian tubes, that is called ovulation.
-Two oval-shaped organs
-On the sides of the uterus.
(f) What is a uterus?
What can it do?
-The uterus can expand and contract to help push a baby out during labor. Holds the baby during pregnancy.
(f) What is a cervix?
How big is it?
The cervix is a place where during childbirth, the baby passes through. Although, it is very small and is no wider than a straw.
(f) (m) What is an urinary bladder?
A hollow, spherical-shaped organ that holds urine.
(f) What is a urethra?
A canal that carries pee from the bladder to the outside of the body.
(f) What is a vagina?
A tube that stretches from the vaginal opening to the uterus.
(f) What is a vulva?
The vulva covers the opening to the vagina and other reproductive organs inside the body
(m) What is the Vas Deferens?
What does it do?
It is part of the duct system and works as a transport system for sperm. It carries the sperm to the epididymis.
(m) What is the urethra?
-It is a part of the urinary system, as it acts as a pathway for pee to pass through the bladder.
-It is a sperm transporter that carries semen to the outer part of the body through the penis.
(m) What is a penis?
It is made of 2 parts: shaft and glans. The main part of the penis is the shaft and the glans is at the tip of the penis. The glans have a small slit where pee and semen exit the body.
(m) What is the epididymis?
It is a part of the duct system and transports sperm. It hangs in a pouch structure outside the pelvis which is called a scrotum.
(m) What are the testes?
Two oval-shaped testes which store millions of small sperm cells.
(m) What is the scrotum?
It is a bag of skin that regulates the temperature of testicles.
(m) What is the prostate gland?
It is an accessory gland and provides fluids to lubricate the duct system. This nourishes the sperm. It makes a whitish fluid called seminal fluid to mix with sperm to form semen.
