reproductive system: gamete production/fertilisation Flashcards
where are sperm cells produced
seminiferous tubules
where is the main male sex hormone produced?
interstitial cells which are in the testes
what does the prostate gland & seminal vesicles do
secretes fluid which maintains the mobility and viability of sperm cells
prostate gland ?
secretes milky white flour with enzymes to keep fluid thin
seminal vesicular?
secretes fluid containing fructose and prostaglandius
whaaat does fructose do?
provides sperm tails with energy for movement
what does prostaglandius do?
stimulates female reproduction tract to contract helping sperm to each egg easier
where are the ovum produced
ovaries
what is the ovum surrounded by & what does it help do?
follicle and it protects the developing ovum & produces hormones
what happens during fertilisation?
the ova is released into oviduct, it is then fertilise into a diploid zygote then the zygote travels through the oviduct towards the uterus and undergoes cell division into a ball of cells and then the ball of cells implant onto the uterus wall (endometrium) and develops an embryo.
