LH
Luteinizing Hormone
Females: induces ovulation and development of corpus luteum to produce progesterone.
Males: produce testosterone from Leydig cells.
FSH
Follice-stimulating Hormone
Female: stimulate the growth of immature ovarian follicles to produce estrogen.
Males: stimulate spermatogenesis and sertoli cells to produce ABPs.
human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG)
Similar to LH, can also induce ovulation in the ovaries as well as testosterone production in the testes.
Used in Prepubertal Cryptorchidism (induce testicular descent)
Alkylation of 17-alfa position of Testosterone
Allowed for administration of the hormone.
Examples: Methyltestosterone, Fluoxymesterone and Oxymetholone. (HEPATOTOXIC)
Vasopressin Receptor Antagonists
Conivaptan and Tolvaptan
FDA-approved for the treatment of hyponatremia associated with CHF and SIADH.
