Reproductive and endocrine systems Flashcards
Describe the process of differentiation for males
Sex determining region of Y chromosome (SRY) produces Testes determining factor (TDF).
TDF turns gonads into testes.
Testes produce testosterone
Male parts produced
Desctibe process of differentation for females
No Y chromosome so no SRY so no TDF. Gonads differentiate into ovaries etc.
Fallopian tubes.
Where do the testes develop
Where the gonadal ridge is near the abdomen. Each testes drops into a scrotum.
Why is the scrotal region cooler?
It is cooler because it provides optimum temp for spermatogenesis.
Which kind of nervous system is sperm emission and explusion controlled by?
Sympathetic.
Proper name for erection?
Vasocongestion.
Is erection a reflex?
Spinal reflex, triggered by mechanoreceptors.
How does gametogenesis happen in females?
Primary ococytes and primordial follicles
Secondary oocytes
mature ovum
polar bodies
What stages are there in the ovarian cycle?
Follicular cycle:follicles mature
Estrogen increases
Luteal phase. LH surge. Where corpus luteum is maintained and secretes estrogen and progesterone.
