Reproduction Flashcards
What is DNA?
Part of nucleus.
Chromosomes are made up of DNA.
It stores information.
Full form of DNA
Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid
Are daughter cells identical to parent cell?
No,they are similar but not identical as when cell divides there is degree of variation present during replication..
What is variation?
If there is a change during cell division it is called variation…
What is niche?
Environment that has everything for survival of species.
Importance of variation?
As it is useful for the species over time
Evolution
What is fission?
Fission is the division of unicellular organism into two new individuals.eg amoeba.
Difference between amoeba and protozoa?
Both have same kind of reproduction method which is fission, but protozoa divides from the centre into two but in amoeba it can be cut from any plain and develop into new individual.
Who causes kala-azar?
Leishmania
How Plasmodium reproduce?
Multiple fission
Single organisms divides into many daughter cell simultaneously.
What is Plasmodium?
A parasite that causes malaria
Explain reproduction in yeast.
Yeast reproduce through budding.
A bud is formed on body of yeast which grows and separates to form new organism. The separation depends on environmental conditions.
What is regeneration?
If an organism is cut into pieces, the pieces grow into new organism, this process is called regeneration.
Eg- Hydra, Planaria
Regeneration occurs through specialized cells
These cells divide to form many cells
Then cells are differentiated.
What is budding?
In budding the the organism starts to grow in the plant body and detaches after getting fully developed by taking care for the suitable conditions.
Eg-hydra,yeast
Define spore formation.
It is done in the non flowering plants which develops spores that contains cells, covered with thick wall which protects them and on suitable moist surface they grow into new individual rhizopus.
