Reproduction Flashcards
What is reproduction?
Reproduction is the process when offspring is produced from their parents.
What are two types of reproduction?
Sexual and asexual reproduction.
What does sexual reproduction involve?
It involves fertilisation, joining together cells from each parent with half the number of chromosomes to make a new cell.
What does asexual reproduction involve?
It involves one parent and produces offspring that are genetically identical to each other and to the parent.
Why is sexual different from asexual reproduction?
Sexual reproduction has two parents contribute genetic information to produce offspring.
Asexual reproduction generates offspring that are genetically identical to a single parent.
How is reproduction related to the survival of the species?
It’s related because if any species didn’t reproduce it would be the end of the species.
