What is a menstrual cycle
When a female loses the lining of the endometrium which has broken down and a small amount of blood and cells pass through the vagina
At what age do girls usually start their periods?
Around 10-14 years
At what age does menopause start?
Around 45-55
What is ovulation?
Where an egg is released from the ovary
Why are hormones an important part of the menstrual cycle?
Tell the body to release the egg from the ovaries
What two hormones are produced by the ovaries?
Oestrogen and progesterone
What is fertilisation?
sperm meets egg
What is implantation?
Where the zygote (egg) plants its self into the uterus lining
Repair phase
New uterus lining
Receptive phase
The uterus is ready to receive fertilised egg
Pre-menstrual phrase
The uterus lining begins to break up.
