Repro in plants(2) Flashcards
How do flowering plants reproduce?
Reproduction in flowering plants involve four processes — pollination, fertilisation, dispersal and germination
What is pollination?
Pollination occurs when pollen grains from the anther transfer to the stigma of a flower
What are the four dispersal methods?
Animal dispersal, water dispersal, wind dispersal and splitting/explosive action
What are the characteristics of animal dispersed seeds?
Fruit is fleshy
What are the characteristics of water dispersed seeds?
They have fibrous husks
What are the characteristics of wind dispersed seeds?
Seed has wing like structures and are usually light
What is fertilisation?
Fertilisation occurs when the male reproductive cell fuses with the female reproductive cell
What is dispersal?
The scattering of fruits or seeds is called dispersal
What is germination?
After seeds are dispersed, they develop into young plants if the conditions are suitable. This process is called germination
