follicle stage
fsh stimulates
1. follicle development in the ovaries
2. oestrogen secretion by the follicles
oestrogen causes the repair and growth of the uterine lining
a high conc of oestrogen in the blood
1. inhibits fsh production, preventing the maturation and growth of more follicles
2. stimulates pituitaryov gland to secrete lh
ovulation
lh causes ovulation and the formation of corpus leteum
an ovary releases an egg into oviduct
aft ovulation
progesterone is released
prevents ovulation and further development of eggs
causes uterine lining to thicken further, preparing it for the implantation and growth of an embroyo
oestrogen levels decrease
if no fertilisation occurs, progesterone production decreases
