Representing waves Flashcards
1
Q
Key features of a wave
A
Amplitude
Wavelength
Frequency
Period
Speed
2
Q
Amplitude
A
The maximum displacement of a particle from the average or rest position
3
Q
Wavelength
A
The distance between any two successive points in phase. Two particles on the wave are said to be in phase if they have the same displacements from the average position and are moving in the same direction.
4
Q
Frequency
A
The number of complete cycles that pass a given point
per second and is measured in hertz (Hz)
5
Q
Period
A
The period is the time it takes for any point on the wave to go through one complete cycle (e.g. from crest to successive crest).
T = 1/f
