The juvenile’s parent or guardian,

Failing that, a social worker from the local authority,

Failing that, a responsible adult aged 18+ unconnected to police, e.g. aunt/uncle/grandparent.

Role of the appropriate adult

Answer 2

To ensure the suspect understands what is happening to them and why. Even if the vulnerable person denies legal advice, the appropriate adult has the right to ask for the attendance of a solicitor.
