Representations of Data Flashcards
Outlier
A data point that doesn’t fit the general trend
General rule for outlier limits
UQ + 1.5(IQR)
LQ - 1.5(IQR)
Write boundaries when determining outliers
Box plot drawing method
Calculate the outlier bounds to see which of the highest/lowest values are valid
Use an x for an outlier and draw the whisker to the maximum/minimum non-outlier value
If not given enough, draw to the outlier boundary
Comparing box plots
Compare medians and either range/IQR ensuring it is in context
Histogram check
Check the classes are not rounded and unround if they are as continuous data must be used
Histogram length scale factor
bar width/class width
Histogram height scale factor
bar height/frequency density
Frequency density
frequency/class width
