“the flowers are mute”

A

The word “mute” represents being silenced, and having your voice confined. The word mute also conveys the idea of being paused and still. Flowers links to joy, beauty, and life. Flowers always bring happiness to everything around it. So, the fact that it’s mute is diminished to being powerless, fragile, and stripped of all it’s features that make it so exceptional and bright.

Q

Point 1=

“Like a dying clock”

A

This simile adds emotion to help give the reader a clear image of how horrific it is to see our nature decay. Comparing it to a dying clock shows us that if things are not being handled with care it will start to slowly wear out and lose everything that made it important. That emphasises the idea that nothing lasts unless it’s cared for.

Point 1= personal response

A

The description of something as beautiful, heavenly, and crucial to our well-being being destroyed and demolished, makes me feel guilty and mournful. And I am scared that if people abuse the beauty of nature then the description of boey will come true.

Point 2=

“Triton’s notes struggle to be free”.

A

This highlights truly being voiceless and not being able to express one’s thoughts no matter how much you try. The image is both auditory and visual. The struggle makes me imagine the notes battling to escape and bring feelings of serenity and peace but is ultimately barricaded by the garbage humans have been dumping.

It makes me pitiful that the actions of us humans have caused pain and suffering to the creatures of the wild, and their habitats. It’s disturbing how savage it is. And we know that once the damage has been done you can’t take it back

Point 3=

“Insatiate man moves for the kill”

A

This adjective further supports the message Boey was conveying through the poem that humans have an irrational lust for possessions, we are so greedy and oblivious by fulfilling our wants we are murdering our planet just like a monster mindlessly hunting for what it wants, not thinking of the consequences. We can never be satisfied with what we have, always seeking for more no matter the cost.

God is mighty, unworldly, and graceful. He also symbolizes hope, light, heaven, and acts of kindness. whereas “Laboring” means things are being strained, struggling, and crumbling. A

This word implies pain, injury, fatality, blood, and death.

18
Q

Point 3= Personal response

A

The passage creates a sense of hopelessness and doom, that the damage is so severe it will take a lifetime to undo our mistakes. I feel awful that we took mother nature’s hospitality for granted and took advantage of all the resources she’s given us to live.
