Q

Describe the reverse transcriptase mechanism

A

RNA is used as a template to make a single stranded DNA genome.

In RNA-DNA hybrid, RNA is dissolved leaving the single stranded DNA genome

Single stranded DNA copy is used to make double stranded DNA copy (provirus)

Q

What is the job of integrase for the proviral DNA?

A

Binds the 2 ends of the proviral DNA and brings them together and in close proximity to the cellular DNA

It takes off the 3’ end of the proviral DNA and is inserted into the host DNA

The host enzyme carries out repair
