Repentence And Faith Flashcards
What is repentance? *
Repentance is Godly sorrow for sin and turning away from it.
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of. But the sorrow of the world worketh death.” Acts 16:36
What is faith?
Faith is belief and trust in God. This is evangelical faith.
Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6
What kind of duties are repentance and faith.
They are sacred duties.
By whom are they (duties) wrought?
They are wrought in the soul by the Holy Spirit.
Does faith save?
No
Why not? *
It is the medium through which we are saved.
” For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
Why are repentance and faith necessary? *
Because without them salvation is impossible.
” And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, the magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore depart, and go in peace.” Acts 16:36
What are the elements of repentance?
Consciousness of sin, sorrow for sin, hatred for and turning away from sin.
What is repentance designed to do?
It is designed to convince the sinner to his guilt, danger and helplessness and point to him the way of salvation.
When the sinner is thus convinced, what does he do?
He trusts in God with unfeigned contribution
To whom does he return?
God.
Why?
Because it is His law which the sinner has violated.
Through whom does he plead for mercy?
Through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What does he do in this helpless condition?
He heartily received the Lord as his Prophet, Priest and King, and he replies on Him alone for salvation.
