What are the indications for acute RRT?
A
AEIOU
- Acidosis, metabolic
- Electrolyte abnormalities (esp. hyperk or hypercal)
- Intoxications (think poisoning)
- Overload of fluid that is refractory
- Uremia - encephalopathy, pericarditis

What are the ways to obtain vasular access for hemodialysis?
A
Arteriovenous fistula is best!
arteriovenous graft
permcath (tunneled catheter)
quinton (non-tunneled) catheter - hospital only
