Renal Related Terms Flashcards
PAH
P - Amminohippurate Transport, which is a transport system.
Ionomycin
This is a calcium ionophore that increases cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels.
BAPTA-AM
This is a Ca2+ chelator which reduces cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels.
TMB-8
This is an agent that inhibits efflux of Ca2+ from intracellular stores.
Phorbol-12-myristate 13-
acetate (TPA)
This agent is a PKC activator.
Mineralocorticoid
This is a steroid hormone that plays a role in regulating salt and water balances.
Glucocorticoid
These are corticosteroids that are a class of steroid hormones.
Adenylate and Uridylate rich elements
The Na/K ATPase B subunit mRNA has these elements in the 3’ UTR (Untranslated Region) and may affect mRNA stability or translational efficiency.
SV40 T Antigen
These are large and small T Antigens, that are regulatory proteins encoded by SV40. Large T Antigen is responsible for cellular and viral transcription regulation, virion assembly, viral DNA replication and alteration of the cell cycle.
Alkaline Phosphatase
This is a brush border enzyme responsible for breaking down proteins in the body and exists in different forms depending on where it originates.
Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase
This is an enzyme that removes glutamyl groups from aromatic amines to other amine receptors on peptides or amino acids.
Medium K-1
This is medium (DMEM: Hams F12) with T3, hydrocortisone, insulin, transferrin and PGE1.
