Renal Artery Stenosis Flashcards
1
Q
Definition.
A
Decreases blood flow to the juxtaglomerular apparatus which results in activation of the renin angiotensin aldiosterone system leading to HTN.
Decreased renal artery blood flow -> Results to decreased gfr -> stimulation of RAAS -> HTN (factor for renal disease)
2
Q
Etiology
A
Atherosclerosis
Fibromuscular dysplasia
3
Q
Symptoms.
A
Hypertension
Decreased renal function
Abdominal bruit
4
Q
Diagnosis
A
Duplex Doppler US
Renal arteriogram
Magnetic Resonance Angiography
5
Q
Treatment.
A
Revascularization with precutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty ( ptra)
- surgery
- ace inhibitors (enalapril, captopril 25-50mg, ramipril 5-10mg)
- calcium channel blockers ( verapamil 40-80mg, nifedipine 30-60mg)
