Renal Flashcards

Q

GFR

A

GFR = KF x (PGC - PBS - πGC) | KF is the filtration coefficient, the product of the permeability of the filtration barrier and the surface area available for filtration

Q

Filtration Fraction (FF)

A

GFR / Renal Plasma Flow | i.e. the filtration fraction is the fraction of the renal blood that gets filtered - renal blood flow = 1000ml/min but only 60% of blood is plasma (40% being cellular components) so 600ml/min is the renal plasma flow

Q

Anion Gap

A

Anion Gap = ([Na+] + [K+]) + ([Cl-]+[HCO3-]) | normal = approx. 16, large gap suggests metabolic acidosis
