Renal Flashcards
1
Q
What is renal blood flow ?
A
PAH clearance (ERPF) / (1-HCT)
2
Q
What is the renal filtration fraction ?
A
GFR / RPF = 20% norm. OR it is Creatine Clearance / PAH Clearance.
3
Q
What affect do NSAIDS have on the kidney ?
A
Prostaglandins dilate the afferent arteriole increasing the RPF and GFR keeping FF constant. NSAIDS will inhibit prostaglandin production thus lowering RPF and GFR.
4
Q
What affect do ACE Inhibitors have on the kidney ?
A
AT-2 constricts the efferent arteriole. Lowering the RPF and increasing the GFR. Thus Ace inhibitors will prevent the efferent constriction increasing RPF and lowering GFR.
5
Q
How do you calculate the ion gap ?
A
Na+ - (Cl- + HCO3-) Normal is ( 8 - 12 )
