Renal Flashcards
AKI
What are the three groups of causes of an AKI?
Pre-renal
Renal
Post-renal
AKI
What is the definition of a pre-renal cause of an AKI?
Reversible impairment of renal function from relative hypovolaemia or hypoperfusion
AKI
What is the definition of a renal cause of an AKI?
Damage within a kidney which could result from more severe ischaemia, sepsis, inflammation, or toxicity
AKI
What is the definition of a post-renal cause of an AKI?
Obstruction of urine outflow causing a damaging “back pressure” within the kidney
AKI
What is classed as Stage 1 AKI?
Creatinine rise of 26 micromol/l or more within 48hrs or
Creatinine rise >/= 1.5 x baseline in 7 days or
Urine output less than0.5 ml/kg/hr for >6 hours
AKI
What is classed as Stage 2 AKI?
Creatinine rise >/= 2 x baseline or
Urine output less than 0.5 ml/kg/hr for >/= 12 hours
AKI
What is classed as Stage 3 AKI?
Creatinine rise to 354 micromol/l or more with either
* Acute rise in creatinine of >/= 26 micromol/l within 48 hours or
* >/= 50% rise from baseline within 7 days or
Creatinine rise >/= 3 x baseline in 7 days or
Urine output less than 0.3 ml/kg/hr for >6 hours or
Anuria for 12 hours or
Any requirement for renal replacement therapy
