Renal Flashcards
Benazepril HCl
Lotensin
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Suppression of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system by competitively inhibiting the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE)
Enalapril Maleate
Vasotec
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Competitively inhibits angiotensin- converting enzyme (ACE), which results in a decreased synthesis of Angiotensin II
Furosemide
Lasix
Indication: Edema, Hypertension
MOA: loop diuretic which inhibits reabsorption of sodium & chloride in the proximal & distal tubules.
Hydrochlorothiazide
Microzide
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Inhibits the reabsorption of sodium & chloride at the distal renal tubule.
Irbesartan
Avapro
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: blocks the vasoconstrictor & aldosterone secreting effects of angiotensin II by slectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues.
Lisinopril
Prinvil, Zestril
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Competitively inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which relsults in decreased synthesis of angiotensin II. the reduction of angiotensin II also decreases the release of aldosterone, which in turn decreases sodium & water reabsorption & lowers plasma volume.
Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide
Zestoretic, Prinzide
Indication: Hypertension
MOA:Competitively inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which relsults in decreased synthesis of angiotensin II. the reduction of angiotensin II also decreases the release of aldosterone, which in turn decreases sodium & water reabsorption & lowers plasma volume.
Losartan
Cozaar
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Losartan & its principal active metabolite aldosterone secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking hte binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues
Losartan/HCTZ
Hyzaar
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Losartan & its principal active metabolite aldosterone secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking hte binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues
Potassium Chloride
Klor-Con, K-Dur, Micro-K
Indication: Potassium replacement
MOA: Principal intracellular cation of most body tissues.
Ramipril
Altrace
Indication: Hypertension
MOA: Suppression of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system by competitively inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme ACE.
Benazepril HCl
Lotensin
Adverse Effects: Cough, headache, dizziness, ANGIOEDEMA, fatigue & nausea
Benazepril HCl
Lotensin
Consultation: Do not discontinue medication unless otherwise directed by your physician. Avoid nonprescription cough, cold, & allergy medications unless otherwise directed. Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. Report any sign of facial swelling, difficulty in breathing, or infection (fever, sore throat)to your physician. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight & children. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is closer to the time of your next dose than the dose you missed, skip the missed dose & return to your dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
Furosemide
Lasix
Adverse Effects:
Dizziness, orthostatic hypertension, dry mouth, HEARING LOSS, nausea, vomiting, WEAKNESS, MUSCLE CRAMPS, paresthesia, ANEMIA, photosensitivity, purpura, rash & hyperglycemia
Furosemide
Lasix
Consulation: May be taken with food or milk if GI upset occurs. Timing of dose is important b/c of increased diuresis. Usually given in early AM. Avoid overexposure to sunlight. Do not take any nonprescription cough or cold medications, antacids, laxatives or antidiarrheals without first consulting your pharmacist or physician. May cause orthostatic hypotension; take appropriate precautions. Store ina cool dry place away from sunlight & children. If a dose is missed take it as soon as possible. If it is closer to the time of your next dose than the dose you missed, skip the missed dose and return to your dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
Enalapril Maleate
Vasotec
Adverse Effects: Headache, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, rash, hypotension, cough, nausea, and orthostatic effects
