A program of study. Aimed to replace the the scholastic emphasis on logic and philosophy with the study of ancient languages, literature, history, and ethics.

Catholics responded to how the Protestants were rejecting the Catholic Church. The Catholics wanted to condemn and refute the beliefs of Protestants such as Martin Luther and John Calvin.
