A philosophy that taught people to question everything
Linear Perspective
Makes the illusion of depth in a piece of art by making objects look closer or smaller by changing their location and size.
Florence
A major city-state in Italy (Known for cloth making)
Patron
A rich sponsor who would help fund projects. Often times these projects were related to architecture, art, science, and engineering.
Printing Press
A large machine that can print text onto many sheets of paper by using moveable type and can print hundreds of pages in a single day.
Renaissance
Means “Rebirth” in French and lasted from about the 1300s to the 1600s. The Renaissance time period was a time of rediscovery and the making of new ideas.
Vernacular
The day to day language spoken by the people.
Copernicus
An astronomer who went against the geocentric theory (the commonly taught belief at the time) and instead proposed the heliocentric theory.
Da Vinci
An artist, engineer, and architect. He is often thought of as a true Renaissance man due to his wide knowledge.
Dante
An Italian poet, writer, and philosopher. He is known for writing The Divine Comedy.
Elizabeth I
Her father was decapitated when she was young by her dad. She would learn many languages as a kid and eventually become queen after the deaths of her sister and brother.

Medici Family
The Medici Family was a very powerful (and rich) family who would often help fund/patronize works.
Michelangelo
A known sculptor who made many sculptures and paintings
