-Individuals questions the importance of aspects in their lives such as the role of God and science

-Helped scientists and doctors make and explain discoveries

-Allowed ideas to spread quickly across Britain and Europe

-Improved literacy rates increased the number of people accessing scientific ideas
How did Vesalius improve the understanding of human anatomy?
- Dissected humans instead of animals meaning he proved Galen wrong
- Worked with skilled artists to get correct anatomy documented
- Proved the value of dissection and the need to question the work of ancients
How was the impact of Vesalius’ work limited?
-Doctors still did not know the cause of illness or learn new treatments
How did Pares use of the scientific method improve treatments and surgery?
- Experimented on wounded soldiers
- Ran out of oil so made a Roman tincture instead to seal wounds which worked and was better than oil
- Used ligatures to tie wounds instead of cauterising them which worked better
- Spread ideas through his book ‘The works’
How was the impact of Pare’s work limited?
- Only the rich could afford medical care
- Only trained doctors knew about his book
- Ideas were met with scepticism
What did Harvey discover?
-That blood circulated around the body by the heart beating and were pushed through by valves
Why was what Harvey discovered not well received?
- Proved Galen’s theory wrong that the liver produced blood
- Challenged the popular idea of bleeding
- Conservatives still very much supported Galen
- Capillaries could not be seen and would not be seen for another sixty years
Why did treatment evolve in Renaissance England?
- Improved travel and communication
- New herbs and ideas
- Individuals such as Lady Grace Milady, Robert Burton ands Jane Sharp
What were Quack doctors?
- People who falsely claimed they were doctors
- Sold false treatments
- Load of rubbish
Who were Plague doctors?
- Special doctors that treated plague victims
- Wore special clothing that covered all parts of their body
- Wore amulets to protect them (superstitions)
How was the scientific approach added into treating and preventing Black Death?
-Death rates were observed to be higher in poorer and dirtier places
How did hospitals improve in the Renaissance?
- Hospitals actually began to treat instead of just care
- Foundling hospitals developed
