Trying to pass blame. Repetition of and show that he is thinking and trying to emphasis that he was not alone. He is reflecting back and doesn’t reconcile the people with him as his perception of them change after that

Last line show it is final. Death is forever and he has to live with the guilt. No collective responsibility. Poem is a journey thought where he finds guilt and admits to his actions.
