Remains Flashcards
Simon Armitage
Wrote poem about guardsman Tromans(soldier in the Iraq war)who suffered ptsd from war (after he had to shoot someone) and was laughed at by probation officer
Probably armed,possibly not.
Juxtaposition to show that tromans didn’t even need to shoot the robber. Also a refrain throughout the story to show PTSD.
His bloody life in my bloody hands
Pun bloody literal and swearing.pun showing he is only young and still making jokes about something serious.symbolism of guilt(allusion to lady Macbeth) and shows graphic nature of poem.
he’s here in my head when I close my eyes // dug in behind enemy lines.
It’s a war metaphor(can’t get idea of war out of his head).Irony because robber is haunting him instead of him killing robber.Idea of robber like illness seeking revenge and haunting him.
Written in free verse
SHows how uncontrolled war was and how ptsd was dealt with.
