This is Anecdotal Dotal language suggesting that this has occurred before in his life and is one of many events
‘And one of them legs it up the road’
This is Colloquialism as it is slang to give the speaker a more realistic tone

‘possibly not’ undermines the severity of the situation questioning if he was not armed should he have even of been shot. This outlines the power he had in the situation
‘Three of a kind all letting fly, and I swear’
This is Analogy to describe the soldiers as a pack of cards in poker. Emphasising how everything in this situation was just chance
‘I see broad daylight on the other side’
This is use of a Graphic Hyperbole to show the lack of glory or honour in his killing
‘So he’s on the ground sought of inside out’
This line is ‘Dehumanising’ the looter making him seem more like an object that was moments ago a breathing person
‘One of my mates go by’
Again the use of Colloquialism with the word ‘mate’ almost to make it seem like a night out with the lads as if it was a social event
‘And tosses his guts back into his body’
Juxtaposed to the way the speaker is relaxed and saying it with ease from the graphic and violent killing
‘His blood shadow stays on the street’
Metaphor for a memory of the man and event. Blood representing death and the shadow representing a lingering memory
‘Sun stunned, sand-smothered land or six feet under in desert sand’
This is Sibilance to convey a dream like state of mind the speaker is in
‘His bloody life in my bloody hands’
Dark humour representing the bloody meaning that he is literally covered in however there is a sense of anger. The speaker is in conflict with his own mind, leaving the poem with no resolution
The Poem Explores the events in a soldiers life which triggers PTSD and the memory hurts more than the physical event itself
