What was the impact of the Great Awakening? (3)
A
- Undermined legally established churches and their tax-supported ministers as people left those churches and either formed their own separatist ones (unsupported by the govt) or Baptist ones (also unsupported)
- Challenged the authority of all ministers (their status relied on respect for their education and knowledge of the bible)
- Colleges were established to educate young men and train ministers (established by New Light Presbyterians, New York Anglicans, Baptists, and Dutch Reformed Church)
- A new sense of authority - common people believed they could assert their rights
