Religious Studies - Paper 2 Topics Flashcards
How can religious upbringing enable a person to believe in God?
Religious upbringing enables a person to believe in God because from an early age, we are told about God. If our parents believe in God, we are likely to believe in God as children because our parents are our biggest influences. As children, we are likely to attend faith school, receive sacraments like baptism, go to Mass and pray in school and at home
What is meant by revelation?
Revelation means that God has shown us what He is like and we learn something new about Him.
What are the different forms of revelation? (In what ways does God reveal Himself to people?)
God reveals Himself through the Bible, the Church and Jesus
How can ‘revelation’ help a person develop their belief in God?
Revelation through the Bible helps a person develop their belief because we can interpret it for our circumstances as it is the inerrant, Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. It contains parables and commandments to guide us. Revelation through the Church means that it develops your belief because the Church is guided by the Holy Spirit and the pope is the Successor of St Peter and the Vicar of Christ. God reveals Himself through Jesus as Jesus is God incarnate and the full revelation of God. Through Jesus’ love, He performed miracles and we can form a personal relationship with Him through the sacraments.
