Sadducees’ Views / Impact on Jesus
- Did not belief in life after death.
2. Jesus was said to have resurrected Lazarus.
Outcome of relationship with Sadducees
Jesus was restricted as to what he could say about the matter due to the political power that the Sadducees held.
Pharisees’ Views / Impact on Jesus
- Believed that women and publicans were impure.
2. Jesus rejected Pharisee notions of purity and impurity. (Often associated with women and publicans)
Outcome of relationship with Pharisees
Jesus travelled around ordinary Jewish towns like Capernaum of which the Pharisees were the main religious group.
Essenes’ Views / Impact on Jesus (Pt 1)
- Looked forward to a Messiah. One of their functions being to lead a war against pagans and free the Jews from oppression.
- Jesus was a pacifist.
Outcome of relationship with Essenes (Pt 1)
- This meant that the Essenes and all those that followed their message, would not accept him as the Messiah.
Zealots’ Views / Impact on Jesus
- Dedicated to freeing the Jews from Roman occupation by violence.
- Jesus was a Pacifist.

Would have been an enemy to the Zealots
Essenes’ Views / Impact on Jesus (Pt 2)
- . Essene practice is baptism. It seems that they did this daily so many speculate as to whether or not John the Baptist was an Essene.
- Jesus begins his ministry by being baptised by John the Baptist. (Disciples baptised as well.)
Outcome of relationship with Zealots (Pt 2)
Jesus may have been supported by the Essenes.
