Proclamations Act 1539
-repealed so that somersets statements would be obeyed
-he was giving himself more freedom to rule independent of parliament
-77 declarations made
Act of chantries (1547)
-after dissolution of monasteries, somerset closed chantries
-act was a device to accumulate more money for war
-commissioners sent out to confiscate land, gold, property
Problems with Act of Chantries
-Silver content in coin increased so further debasement
-As a result, food prices and inflation increased and more public outrage
Treason Act 1547
-Act was repealed
-Allowed for freedom of speech and press concerning religion
-Allowed calvinist and lutheran print to be published freely
Problems with Act of Chantries
-Caused disorder as public debates would happen
-Attacks on churches
-Authorities couldn’t enforce laws for law and order
Act of Uniformity (1549) and effects
-All priests to adopt protestant practices and removal of saints
-Didn’t satisfy radical reformists as the eucharist was still included
moderate reform meant that most of England adhered to it
Book of Common Prayer (1549)
-single form of mass in english
-much of old ceremony remaind
-removal of sacrificial element of eucharist
-wine was given to everyone and not just clergy
