A small rectangular cloth for wiping the chalice.
What is a lavabo and pitcher?
Used for washing the priest’s hands.
What is the altar cloth?
The WHITE cloth that covers the altar for the celebration of mass.
What are the altar candles?
Candles on the altar to show the presence of Christ.
What is a paten?
The plate that holds the large pieces of communion.
What is a pyx?
A small golden vessel that is used to bring the blessed sacrament to those who cannot come to the Church.
What are the cruets?
Hold the wine and water
What is a lavabo towel?
Towel priest uses to dry his hands
What is a corporal?
Square cloth placed on the altar beneath the chalice and paten.
What is the paschal candle?
Large candle used, prepared and blessed only at the time of easter. This stands next to the altar and is put next to the baptismal font when it is not easter.
What are the bells?
Gold bells used for the consecration.
What is the aspersorium?
Bucket used to carry the holy water for sprinkling
What is a thurible?
Used for carrying and burning incense.
What are the 3 sacred oils?
Oil of Chrism, Oil of the sick, Oil of the Catechumens.
What is the Roman missal?
The book containing all the instructions for the mass.
What is the sanctuary lamp?
A red candle that burns near the Tabernacle when the sacrament is there.
What is the aspergillum?
The sprinkler used for casting the holy water.
What is the incense boat?
Holds the incense before burning.
What is a sacrarium?
Drain in the sacristy that flows directly down to earth. This could be holy water, blessed ashes and the water that is used to wash the altar clothes.
What is a lectionary?
The book containing the biblical reading arranged for the mass.
What is the book of the Gospels?
The book where the gospel readings are read.
What is an alb?
The WHITE full-length garment worn by the priest and deacon.
What is a stole?
A coloured strip of fabric worn around the neck.
What is a chasuble?
COLOURED piece of clothing WORN OVER OTHER VESTMENTS.
What is a cope?
Cape-like vestment that may be worn during celebrations outside of mass.
What is a cincture?
Piece of string worn over the alb if it is too big.
What is an ordo?
A liturgical aid published to foster the celebration of the liturgy.
What is a cassock?
Worn by altar servers.
What is a dalmatic?
Vestment worn by deacons.
What is the processional cross?
Large cross carried at the start and end of mass.
What is the difference between an alb and a chasuable?
An alb is white and a chasuble is coloured.
