exodus is divided into 3 parts, what are they
- the call: Moses was called to free the Israelites from slavery and lead them to the “promise land”
- the covenant: God promised that if the hebrews followed the 10 commandments then He would guide them
- the test: God let the hebrews wonder in Egypt for 40 years to see if they would honour the 10 commandments
what is passover
after the 10th plague, hebrews were told by God to mark their doors with the blood of a lamb so that the angle of God would pass by them
why is passover celebrated by jewish people
passover celebrates the liberation of the hebrews from slavery
how is passover celebrated
passover is celebrated with a feast of traditional foods and the retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery
why is Jesus known as the paschal lamb
Jesus is known as the paschal lamb as his death as well as the death of the paschal lambs was used to help people
what are the 3 categories of sin
- mortal: completely breaks one’s relationship with God (ex. murder)
- venial: does not completely break ones relationship with God but creates a separation (cooling) (ex. lying)
- social: causes suffering to people (ex. racism)
what are the 3 conditions of sin
- sufficient knowledge
- full consent
- serious matter

why did God give us the 10 commandments
they are basic rules to live in the right relationship with God
what are the 10 commandments
- You shall have no other Gods before me
- You shall not take the name of the God in vain
- Remember the Sabath day
- Honour your mother and father
- You shall not kill
- You shall not commit adultery
- You shall not steal
- You shall not bear false witness
- You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife
- You shall not covet your neighbours’ goods
what is the golden calf incident
after God freed the hebrews from the test, the Israelites grew impatient because Moses was speaking to God for too long on the mountain. they asked his brother Erin to create a new God for them so he took all of their gold jewelry and created a golden calf for them to idolize. God was unhappy however, Moses convinced Him not to go abasing the hebrews as it would break His covenant with Abraham.
