William James-pragmatist
experience of a higher power is necessary to believe.

what is the shared phenomenology from experience with a higher power?
A
- uneasy. The uneasiness comes from the fact that there is something wrong with us as humans
- a solution follows the uneasiness because by connecting with God they know what they need to do
- you then have the choice to believe
- all experiences share this phenomenology-it isn’t a coincidence.

so should you chose to believe?
A
-pragmatism: choosing the one which makes the most sense. Religious belief makes sense because it fits into and secures your interests.
Religious experience is life enhancing
whilst science needs evidence
-why the difference? because of the difference in what they offer you
