What is Deterrence?

A

To try and stop people from committing crimes because they know what the punishment is. Contradicting point ‘thou shall not kill’ if it is killing.

What is Reform?

A

Punishment aimed to stop criminals from re-offending. Often achieved through an education or training programme in prison. ‘love thy neighbor’

A

A form of revenge on behalf of those who were wronged. Known as ‘eye for an eye’.

A

Criminals should ‘pay’ for the wrong they have done. e.g. community services and fines.

A

Capital punishment is the same as the death penalty whereas, corporal punishment is inflicting pain. e.g. whipping.
