What are examples of social injustice?

A

Discriminating against someone because of their skin colour
Mistreating someone because of their sexuality
Denying people basic human rights such as food, shelter and clothing
Discriminating against someone because of their religious beliefs⛪️
Treating someone unfairly because of their sex or race
Extremes of wealth and poverty

Why are the ‘vast majority’ of Christians against all forms of social injustice?

A

GOD’S IMAGE - all humans are created in God’s image and are therefore equal in God’s sight
FOREIGNERS - the Old Testament warns Christians that they must show respect for foreigners “when an alien lives among you in your land, do not mistreat him… Love him as yourself…”
FAVOURITISM - Jesus warned his disciples not to discriminate against the poor or treat them badly or show favouritism to the wealthy. To treat the poor as inferior in Jesus’ view was to act in an evil way.
ACTION - many Christians take positive action to stop social injustice by joining organisations that campaign against social injustice - e.g. Amnesty International

What is Amnesty International?

A

A worldwide movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for human rights and reach almost every country in the world.
Their aim is for everyone to be treated equally regardless of their race, religion or sex. They will fight discrimination and social injustice wherever they can through peaceful protest.
