What did the people believe about having a tyrant king?
due to the divine right of kings, it was believed that god appointed the king, therefore if there was a tyrant God would deal with it. This meant there were no justified rebellions

Had to stay close to him so they could influence him

The practice of a monarch or nobleman providing support, encouragement, or aid to an individual or group

- maintain one unified church
- thought change was needed, however had little sympathy with radical puritans
- reforms could win over moderate puritans and leave extremists isolated
