Q

Quick language techniques of relic

A

“jawbone” represents a synecdoche as well as metaphor

Personification. He personifies both the sea and time.

cenotaph- Metaphor for something tiny gripping something huge- Nihilistic tone for life.

Allusion of sea to Shakespeares ‘the tempest’ he uses imagery to show how the sea and time corrodes “None grow rich in the sea” opposite to shakespeare.

Symbolism - the relic is a symbol of time but also carries religious resonance.
